Day Three - Chamje (1430m) to Chame (2670m)

23rd September,2014

Another damp start to the day, I was lulled to sleep last night by the roaring of the waterfall pictured at the end of day 2 and just visible in the centre of this image.

The map warned of a very steep section, it wasn't kidding

Across the bridge

Across the landslide, the two guys on the crest of the hill in the distance offered to help me 10 minutes earlier before I had realised there was no road.  I think they were following out of morbid curiosity.

Very steep climb, very scary. Penalty for failure, extreme.
I was glad for my gym work, bike in one hand, hillside in the other, toes holding on with everything cycling shoes could muster.

Only to discover a second landslide immediately after the first.

You get an idea of the steepness of the terrain when you spot the bridge in the middle left of the image above

Looking back towards the jeeps from the earlier image, when I remembered the drop I was standing next to I did shuffle back a little.

After lunch and continuing to climb towards Timang, the roar of water was unbelievable but didn't quite match up with what I could see.

Louder now and a partially destroyed bridge as evidence of more to come

This image doesn't convey the noise and power of these falls.  I could barely stand whilst crossing the bridge.

Bagarchhap in the distance, quite a climb straight after lunch.

Watching these guys blew me away, slow and steady and the stack of boards behind them as testament to their patience.
